Description
A shrub or tree. It grows from 3-30 m tall. The trunk can be 10-28 cm across. The leaves are narrowly oval and 6-17 cm long by 2-6 cm wide. The flowers are in groups of 1-12. There can be 1-6 fruit in a group. They are green and turn red when ripe.
Edible Uses
Fruit - raw. The fruit is composed of 1 - 6, dark red, globose to broadly ellipsoid monocarps, each around 12 - 18mm long and 11 - 16mm wide.
Distribution
It is a tropical plant. It can be in non flooded or occasionally flooded forests. It grows from sea level to 700 m above sea level.

Cultivation
Plants succeed in wet soils.
Other Uses
The fibrous bark is used to make a rope. The wood is used for fuel.
Production
Plants flower July to December and fruit October to June.
