Description

A tree. It grows 12 m tall. The leaves are simple and broad. The flowers are green and then turn yellow. They have a scent. The ripe fruit are yellow.

Edible Uses

Fruit - raw. The pulp is sweet and juicy, but fibrous. The yellow fruit is composed of 1 - 10, ovoid to less frequently oblongiform monocarps, each 60 - 95mm long, 45 - 55mm wide.

Traditional Uses

The fruit pulp is acid and is eaten.

Medicinal Uses

A decoction of the bark is drunk and also used in a bath to relieve fevers, bodily aches and pains.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant. It grows up to 1,100 m above sea level.

Amazonia, Colombia, Ecuador, South America,

Cultivation

The fruit takes nearly 1 year to develop from flowering to maturity.

The wood is used locally for construction.
