A tropical plant. It grows in the lowland rainforest. It has been recorded in Santa Isabel in Solomon Islands.

There are about 900-1700 Psychotria species. They grow in the tropics. There are about 217 species in tropical America. Many species contain alkaloids and other chemicals. Psychotria capitulifera is recorded from Colombia. Collected on Isabel by Brass. Specimen in Harvard herbarium.
