Description

A tree. It grows 4-25 m tall. The leaves are oblong and 6.5-14.5 cm long by 2-5 cm wide. The fruit are 2 cm across. The fruit are pale green and then turn pale yellow. They are round and have a sweet pulp.

Edible Uses

Fruit - raw. The greenish-brown, globose to broadly ovoid fruit can be 15 - 40mm long and 15 - 40cm in diameter, composed of 30 - 50 (occasionally to 100) carpels each containing a seed 9 - 9mm long and 4 - 5mm wide.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant. It has been recorded at 250 m above sea level.

Cultivation

Plants succeeds in wet soils. The plant flowers and produces fruit sporadically throughout the year.

The wood is used for timber. It is used in local construction, to make beams and decks.
