A tropical tree in the Annonaceae family.

Edible Uses
Fruit - raw. The pink to brown, subglobose fruit is 30 - 45mm in diameter, comprising 15 - 30 fertile carpels each 16 - 24mm long and 10 - 22mm in diameter.
Traditional Uses
The pulp of the fruit is eaten.

Medicinal Uses
A drink made from the scraped-off inner bark is used to treat swollen throats. The bitter-tasting bark, combined with 'Aguardiente de caña' is used to treat rheumatic pains.
Known Hazards
The roots are an ingredient of an arrow poison.
