Description
A tree. It grows 8 m tall. The bark is black. The young branches are hairy. The leaves are simple and alternate. The leaves are 5-9 cm long by 2-4 cm wide. They are narrowly oval and papery. They taper to both ends. The flowers are in the axils of leaves. Male flowers are in groups and female flowers occur singly. The petals are cream and hairy. The fruit is a berry. It has 1-3 seeds.
Edible Uses
The fruit is eaten.
Distribution
It is a tropical plant. It grows in dry evergreen forests up to 800 m above sea level in southern India.
