Garcinia microcarpa, also known as kandis hutan, is a species of flowering plant, a dioecious understorey fruit tree in the mangosteen family, that is native to Southeast Asia.

Description

A tree. It grows 29 m high. The stem has white to yellow latex. The leaves are opposite and simple. The flowers are 10 mm across. They are yellow. They are in the axils of leaves. The fruit are 2 cm across. They are green and fleshy. The seeds have a fleshy layer or aril around them.

The fruit are eaten.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant. It grows in forests up to 1,200 m above sea level. It grows along rivers and on hillsides. It grows in sandy and clay soil. It grows in Borneo.

Found in the wild on sandy to clay soils.

Propagation

Seed - we have no specific information on this species, but the seed of most members of the genus can be slow to germinate, even if sown fresh, often taking 6 months or more.
