Description

A shrub. It grows 2-5 m tall. The stems can arise from a woody, tuberous rootstock. This is 30-50 cm across. The fruit are round and 1 cm across.

Edible Uses

Fruit - raw. Soft, juicy and sweet. A sweet flavour, but 'flat' in comparison to true blueberries. The round fruit is about 1cm in diameter.

The fruit are eaten raw. They are also used for pickles.

Distribution

A tropical plant. It grows in cloud forests between 2,500-3,500 m above sea level.
