Other Uses

The plant is grown as a living fence to provide a strong, stock-proof barrier. The plant can be an aggressive colonizer of open land and tolerates disturbance. It is the fastest growing species of those columnar cacti found in the region, growing around 4cm per year while other species grow 3mm per year.
