Eugenia uruguayensis is a species of plant in the family Myrtaceae, native to Brazil though Northeastern Argentina.

Description

A tree. It grows 5-12 m tall. The leaves are 3-9 cm long by 1-4 cm wide. They are narrowly oval. The flowers are in groups or 4-6. The fruit is 0.8-1.4 cm long. It is oval.

Edible Uses

The fruit is eaten.

Distribution

It is a subtropical plant. In Argentina it grows below 800 m above sea level.

Other Uses

Wood of a reddish gray, compact, fragile, very hard, rather heavy, lasting very long, but liable to split with desiccation. It is used especially for lathe work, and is also used in small constructions, making tool handles etc The wood is used for fuel and to make charcoal.
