Xylomelum pyriforme, commonly known as the woody pear, is a species of plant in the family Proteaceae native to eastern Australia. It grows as a large shrub or small tree to five metres high.

Description

A large shrub or small tree. It grows 2-5 m high and spreads 1.5-2.5 m wide. The crown is open. The branches hang down. The flowers occur in cream spikes. The fruit are large woody capsules. Possibly now Xylomelum cunninghamianum

Edible Uses

The seeds are edible.

Distribution

It grows in temperate regions. It can grow in the subtropics. It needs well drained soil. It can grow in full sun or light shade. It can stand light frosts.
