Description

A herb in the carrot family (Apiaceae) that grows 15 cm tall. It is found in temperate regions of the Caucasus at elevations between 2,700-4,000 m above sea level.

Edible Uses

The root can be eaten raw or cooked and has a sweet, agreeable, carrot-like flavour.

Propagation

Sow seed in a cold frame in spring. Prick out seedlings into individual pots as soon as they are large enough to handle and grow on in a greenhouse through their first winter. Plant out into permanent positions in early summer of the following year. Division in spring may also be possible.
