Description
A twining herb. It can be 5 m long. The leaves are heart shaped. The flowers are clustered at the ends of the stalk. They are dark purple.

Root - cooked. A mild flavour somewhat like the Jerusalem Artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus). The roots are generally viewed as a famine food, and also as a source of liquid. Leaves - cooked and eaten like spinach. An acid flavour.

Medicinal Uses
