Distribution
It is a tropical plant.
Where It Grows
Brazil, South America,
Cultivation
Requires a sunny position. Succeeds in dry soils. Established plants are drought tolerant. Even when young, the plant has a slow rate of growth.
Propagation
Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in individual containers - placing 3 - 4 seeds in each container. A low germination rate can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 50 - 70 days.
Other Uses
The wood is medium-textured, straight-grained, moderately heavy, hard, with a low resistance to insect attacks. Its small size means that it is only suitable for purposes such as small domestic items and agricultural implements. The wood is used for fuel.
