Myrceugenia miersiana is a species of plant in the family Myrtaceae. It is endemic to Brazil.

A tropical shrub or small tree of the myrtle family growing 3-5 m tall with edible fruit.

Edible Uses

Fruit - raw. The succulent pulp has a sweet, astringent flavour. The ellipsoid fruit can be 25mm long and 20mm wide.

Cultivation

Prefers a position in semi-shade. Plants have a slow to moderate rate of growth.

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A germination rate of around 25% can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 10 - 20 days.

Other Uses

The wood is medium-textured, straight-grained, moderately heavy, hard, resistant to wood-eating organisms. Because of its small dimensions, it is only used for tool handles. The wood is used for fuel.
