Description
A ginger family herb. It is 1-1.5 m tall. The ligule is 2-4.5 cm long The leaves are narrowly sword shaped and 20-30 cm long by 3 cm wide. The flower spike is 1-3 cm long. They are white with yellow tips. The fruit is an oval capsule 2 cm long by 1 cm wide. It is 3 angled. The seeds are purple brown.
Edible Uses
The flower buds, shoots, seeds, and leafy parts are used as vegetables.
Medicinal Uses
The seeds are used in the treatment of indigestion, diarrhoea, vomiting and toothache. The roots are used in the treatment of rheumatism.
Distribution
It is a tropical plant. It grows in forests.
