Description
A tropical shrub 1-2 m tall bearing pale blue flowers and red fruit. It grows in rocky coastal sites from sea level to 40 m elevation, and established plants tolerate salty winds and drought.
Edible Uses
The fruit is eaten and has a salty flavour.
Known Hazards
Although providing many well-known foods for people, including the potato, tomato, pepper and aubergine, most plants in the family Solanaceae also contain poisonous alkaloids. Unless there are specific entries with information on edible uses, it would be unwise to ingest any part of this plant.
Distribution
It is a tropical plant. It grows in rocky coastal sites. It grows from sea level to 40 m above sea level. Established plants can tolerate salty winds and drought.
