Edible Uses

Spices are made from a number of species in this genus, including: Zanthoxylum acanthopodium – Andaliman Zanthoxylum armatum – "green" or "vine" Sichuan pepper Zanthoxylum bungeanum – "red" or common Sichuan pepper Zanthoxylum gilletii - Uzazi Zanthoxylum piperitum – sanshō, chopi Zanthoxylum nitidum Zanthoxylum rhetsa – teppal, tirphal Zanthoxylum schinifolium – sancho, "green" Sichuan pepper Zanthoxylum simulans – "red" or wild Sichuan pepper
