Description

A tropical tree in the Sapotaceae family that grows 5-6 m high. It inhabits lowland areas as an understory plant along rivers and forest savannah edges, with records in Nigeria at elevations between 750-1,060 m.

Edible Uses

The fruit is edible.

Medicinal Uses

The leaves are febrifuge. The roots are febrifuge and also used as genital stimulants and to treat depression.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant. It grows in the lowlands, It grows as an under-storey plant along rivers and on the edges of forest savannah. In Nigeria it has been recorded at 750 and 1,060 m above sea level.

Other Uses

The bark contains a white latex with some records saying it is copious and others that it is scanty. The wood is used for poles and tool handles. The wood is used for fuel and to make charcoal.
