Description
A small palm. It has a single trunk. It grows 8 m tall. The trunk is 3 cm across. The leaves are long and drooping. The young leaves are bright red.
Edible Uses
The shoots, palm heart (cabbage), and seeds are edible, with seeds also used as a masticatory.
Distribution
A tropical plant. It suits a warm humid location. It grows in the rainforest. It needs a hardiness zone of 11-12. Cairns Botanical Gardens.

Cultivation
Plants can be grown from seeds.

There are 26 Calyptrocalyx species with about 25 in New Guinea.
