Description

A woody creeper. It is slender and the branches can be angular. There are tendrils in pairs. The leaves have 2 leaflets. The base is heart shaped. The lobes are oval and 2-5 cm long by 1-3 cm wide. The flowers are in groups at the ends of branches or opposite the leaves. There are 10-20 flowers in a group 8-18 cm long. The pod is 8-15 cm long by 2 cm wide. There is a beak at the tip.

Edible Uses

The pods are eaten.

Distribution

A subtropical plant. in southern China it grows in thickets on hills between 400-2,000 m above sea level. In XTBG Yunnan. In Sichuan.

Notes

There are about 250-350 Bauhinia species. Most are in the tropics. Also as Caesalpinaceae.
