Thysanotus baueri commonly known as mallee fringe-lily, is a flowering plant in the family Asparagaceae and grows in Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria. It is an upright perennial forb with purple fringed flowers that are borne on a slender stem.

Description

A slender lily. The plant has a ring of leaves near the ground. There are only a few leaves and they are without hairs and narrow. There is a ring of tubers under the ground. The plant grows 20 cm high. The flowers are purple. They are 2 cm wide and have 3 petals with frilled edges. The flowers are in clusters. The fruit is a capsule.

Distribution

It is a temperate plant. It grows on calcareous loam, sand and clays. It grows in the Mallee in Australia.

There are about 50 Thysanotus species mostly in Australia. They are also put in the family Anthericaceae. Also put in the family Laxmanniaceae.
