Description

A climber. Young plant parts have a few soft hairs. The leaves are alternate. The leaves are large and oval. They are heart shaped or rounded at the base and taper to the tip. They are 8-20 cm long by 5-15 cm wide. They are hairy underneath. The flowers are trumpet shaped and purple. The tube is 3-4 cm long. They occur as many flowers in a group in the axils of leaves. The fruit are yellow berries. They are 1-2 cm across. There are 2-4 seeds.

Edible Uses

The fruit are used in curry and are especially eaten by children. The leaves are also edible.

Production

In southern India plants flower and fruit is November to January.
