Description
Annona dolichopetala is a tree that can grow from 5 - 20 metres tall. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a food. Annona dolichopetala is widely distributed endemic in the Amazon region of Ecuador. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species. The plant is classified as 'Near Threatened' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2003).
Edible Uses
Fruit - raw. The greenish-yellow, globose to broadly ovoid fruit is around 5cm in diameter, composed of up to 250 carpels each containing a seed around 8 - 10mm x 5 - 6mm wide.
