Description

A tropical shrub or small tree in the Annonaceae family that grows approximately 5 m tall, bearing edible fruit.

Edible Uses

Fruit - raw. The pulp is eaten. The brown fruit is broadly ovoid to broadly ellipsoid, around 20 - 60mm long and 20 - 40mm in diameter, composed of 50 - 100 fertile carpels each 8 - 14mm long and 5 - 10mm in diameter.

Medicinal Uses

The bark from young specimens is a component of a ritual drink 'pina-ï' The roots are used as an anthelmintic.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant.
