Source: WikipediaRhododendron siderophyllum is a rhododendron species native to Guizhou, Sichuan and Yunnan, China, where it grows at altitudes of 1,800–3,000 m (5,900–9,800 ft). It is a shrub that grows to 1–4 m (3–13 ft) in height, with leaves that are elliptic or elliptic-lanceolate, 3–7 cm (1.2–2.8 in) long by 1.2–3.5 cm (0.5–1.4 in) wide. Flowers range from white to pink to pale purple or red. It is placed in section Rhododendron.
Description
A shrub. It grows 1-2 m tall. The young shoots are brown and densely scaly. The leaves are narrowly oval and 3-7 cm long by 2-4 cm wide. The base is rounded or wedge shaped and it tapers to the tip. The flowers are tube shaped and white, pale red or purple. They are often yellowish green inside.
Edible Uses
The flowers are eaten.
Distribution
It is a temperate plant. It grows in mixed and conifer forests between 1,800-3,000 m above sea level. In Sichuan and Yunnan. In Rhodo gardens.
