Description

A shrub or small tree. It grows 2-3 m tall. Young branches are a brownish purple. They have dark brown scales. The leaves are oblong and 11-19 cm long by 4-8 cm wide. The base is rounded or heart shaped and they taper to the tip. They are a dirty white underneath. The flowers are in groups of 3-4 at the ends of the branches. They are white and 9-11 cm across.

Edible Uses

The flowers are eaten.

Distribution

It is a subtropical plant. It grows in evergreen broad-leaved forests between 1,100-2,400 m above sea level. In Yunnan. In Rhodo gardens.

Where It Grows

Asia, Australia, China*, SE Asia, Tasmania, Vietnam.
