Parahancornia peruviana is a species of tree in the family Apocynaceae. It is native to South America.

Description

A tropical tree in the Apocynaceae family that grows in swamps, bearing fruit sold in local markets.

Edible Uses

Fruit - raw. The yellowish pulp has a sweet, pleasant flavour. The delicious fruits smell slightly of orange, but are sweet inside and have a brown sugar taste.

It is a tropical plant. It grows in swamps.

Amazon, Colombia, Peru, South America,

Cultivation

Prefers a moist soil.

Other Uses

A latex flows copiously from damage to the bark and sapwood. The white latex is used in ways similar to Couma macrocarpa, but is considered weaker. The wood is used for general carpentry.
