A small tropical tree 6–15 m tall in the Lauraceae family, native to oak and cloud forests of Central America between 1,250–2,200 m elevation.

Distribution
It is a tropical plant. It grows in oak forests and occasionally in cloud forests. It grows between 1,250 to 2,200 m above sea level.
