Description

A tree. It grows 6-10 m tall. The leaves are 10 cm long by 6-7 cm wide. They are broadly oval. The edges can be wavy. The flowers are yellow. The fruit are red to brown and in dense clusters.

Edible Uses

The seeds are eaten as a stimulant.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant. It grows between 100-500 m above sea level. It grows in seasonally dry areas.

Africa, East Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania,

Cultivation

A dioecious species, both male and female forms need to be grown if fruit and seed are required.

Other Uses

The wood is used for poles, tool handles etc. The wood is used for fuel.
