Description
A grass. It keeps growing from year to year. It forms tufts. The culms are like reeds and stout. They grow 6 m tall and are 1-2 cm wide. The leaf blade is 50-100 cm long by 1-2 cm wide. The flower is a large compound panicle with drooping branches.
Distribution
It is a tropical plant. It grows on mountain slopes between 700-2,000 m above sea level in southern China.

Other Uses
The culms yield a fibre used for cordage. It is also used to make the sacrificial strings used by the Hindus. The leaves are used as a thatching material.
