Description
A vine or creeper. There are tumour like lumps along the branches. The leaves are almost round and 4-14 cm long by 3-10 cm wide. The fruit is yellow-green and red when ripe. They are up to 2.3 cm long and 1.2 cm wide.
Edible Uses
Fruit - raw. Sweet and pungent when fully ripe. The red, obovoid-oblong drupe is 18 - 23mm long and around 12mm in diameter.

Medicinal Uses
This plant is used in Guangxi for curing nephritis. (Reported under Iodes balansae).
Distribution
It is a subtropical plant. In China it grows in limestone areas in Yunnan between 200-1,200 m altitude.

A dioecious species, both male and female forms need to be grown if fruit and seed are required.
