Description

A deciduous shrub growing 4 m tall with oval leaves 5-9 cm long by 2-3 cm wide. It produces purple flowers in small groups on side branches, followed by follicle fruit 7-12 cm long by 5 mm wide containing oblong seeds.

The leaves and stems are used as a vegetable. Young fruit are eaten raw.
