Canna iridiflora is a species of herb in the family Cannaceae.

Description

A plant that keeps growing from year to year. It grows 5 m tall. The leaves are large and green. The flowers are pink to red and hang down. It has 8 lobes. The petals do not curve back.

Edible Uses

The rhizomes are harvested for starch; the roots are also edible.

Known Hazards

It is frost tender.

Distribution

It Central America it grows between 1,800-2,850 m altitude. It is frost tender.
