Posoqueria longiflora, also known as needle flower tree or needle flower is a species of shrub or tree in the family Rubiaceae native to subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest of Northern South America.

Description

A shrub or tree. It grows 8 m tall. The flower heads have small bracts around them. The flowers are 20 cm long. They have a scent. The fruit is an oblong berry. It is 6.5 cm long by 3.3 cm wide. It is green but turns yellow then orange. There is a calyx crown at the top. The pulp of the fruit is edible. There are are 12 seeds. They are angular and orange.

Edible Uses

The fruit is edible and sweet. It is used as bait for fishing.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant. It grows in forests near rivers and along river banks.
