Description

A small shrub. It grows 1 m high. The twigs are rough and hairy. The leaves have bristly hairs and are dark green above and paler underneath. They are oval and have heart shaped bases. They are 1.3-3 cm long. The flowers are yellow and in pairs. The fruit are red and 6-8 mm wide. They are bitter but edible.

Edible Uses

The red fruits are edible, though they have a bitter taste.

Distribution

It grows in the western Himalayas between 2,700-4,000 m altitude. It grows on stony slopes and along riversides and in dry inner valleys.
