A fern. It grows in soil. The leaf stalk has scales. The fronds are divided 3 times.

The caudex (underground stem) is eaten.

Distribution

A tropical plant. It grows in dense forests between 1,400-2,400 m above sea level It grows in the Sandwich Islands in Hawaii.

Plants can be grown from spores or the rhizome.

There are 60 Marattia species. They are tropical ferns.
