Description

A large woody climber. The young shoots have a rusty coloured coating. The leaves are 7.5-15 cm long. They are oblong or sword shaped. The flowers are opposite the leaves. The flowers occur singly and are pale yellow. The fruit are berries that are produced in bunches.

The ripe fruit are eaten, particularly enjoyed by children.

Distribution

It is a subtropical plant. It often grows in streams in hills.

Production

In northeastern India plants flower and fruit April to August.

The fruit are enjoyed. The ripe fruit are eaten especially by children.

There are about 60 Fissistigma species.
