Description

A herb. The roots are fleshy with a swollen tuber near the tip. This is 2-4 cm long by 1 cm wide. The leaves are narrow and 40-80 cm long by 1-2 cm wide. They are soft. The flower stalk is erect and hollow. The flowers are in a spiral arrangement. They have a scent.

Edible Uses

The flowers and leaves are eaten.

Distribution

It is a temperate plant. It grows on the edges of forests and on grassy slopes between 500-2,500 m above sea level in north China.

Notes

There are about 15 Hemerocallis species. Also put in the family Hemerocallidaceae.
