Description
A climbing shrub. It is 6 cm across. It can grow 30 m long. The bark is greyish. The fruit is pale yellow and 25-40 mm long by 15-25 mm wide. The seed is edible.
Edible Uses
The seeds and fruit are edible.
Medicinal Uses
The fruit is pounded to a paste, which is then applied topically to treat goitres.
Distribution
A tropical plant. It grows in forest from sea level to 1,300 m above sea level.

Asia, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sarawak, SE Asia,
Cultivation
Found in the wild on clay, sandy clay or loam soils, sometimes overlying sandstone, shale, limestone or ultramafic.
Other Uses
A soap is obtained by crushing the bark and adding water. The sapwood is white to pale orange.
Notes
There are 33 Gmelina species. They are mostly tropical. Also put in the family Verbenaceae.
