Description

Plagiobothrys fulvus campestris is a ANNUAL growing to 0.6 m (2ft). The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs). Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.

Edible Uses

Seeds - cooked. They can be used as piñole or can be roasted, ground into a powder and eaten dry. Shoots and flowers. The crisp and tender young shoots and flowers make a sweet aromatic food.

Other Uses

A red matter around the roots has been used as a rouge. Another report says that it is found at the base of the leaf stems.
