Description

Legousia pentagonia is a ANNUAL growing to 0.3 m (1ft). It is in flower from July to August. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs). Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers moist soil.

Edible Uses

Tender young shoots - raw.

Distribution

Europe - E. Mediterranean.

Where It Grows

TEMPERATE ASIA: Iran (west), Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Georgia EUROPE: Bulgaria, Greece (incl. Crete)

Cultivation

An easily grown plant, succeeding in a sunny position in an ordinary good garden soil.

Propagation

Seed - sow spring in situ and only just cover the seed.
