Edible Uses

The seeds are used as a substitute for the betel nut. The broadly ellipsoid seeds are around 10mm x 8mm.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant.

Where It Grows

An emergent palm, growing in primary or secondary, premontane to montane rain forest, on spurs and ridge-tops; at elevations from 700 - 1,950 metres.

Other Uses

The leaves are used for thatch. The long inflorescences are used as brooms. The hard outer section of the trunk is split and used for flooring.
