Description

A palm. It grows 10-30 m tall. The trunk is 35-40 cm across. The leaves are 5.5-8.5 cm long with 140-200 leaflets on each side. The fruit are 8-11 cm long and 4.5-6 cm wide. There are 1-3 seeds. These are 3-4 cm long by 1-1.5 cm wide.

Edible Uses

The fruit and seeds are edible; oil is extracted from the seeds.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant.

Where It Grows

Brazil, South America,

Other Uses

The leaves are used as a covering for houses and to shade vegetable crops.
