A tropical tree in the Melastomataceae family found in the Amazon region.

Edible Uses

We have no specific information for this species, but the small, blue, purple or black fruits of many, if not all, species in this genus is edible.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant.

Amazon, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, South America,

Other Uses

The wood is whitish with a grayish tinge. The texture is fine to medium; grain is straight; lustrous; free of any discernible odour or taste. The wood is light in weight; firm; strong. It is easy to work, but saws woolly; it takes a smooth polish; liable to check in drying.. The wood is used for fuel.
