Description

An annual grass. It forms tufts. The stalks are 14-120 cm long. In water it forms spongy stems. The leaf blades are narrow and 550 cm long by 5-12 mm wide. The flower stalks are 5-35 cm long.

Edible Uses

Little millet is cooked like rice. Sometimes the millet is also milled and baked. The protein content of the grain is 7.7%.

Traditional Uses

The grains are used to make an alcoholic drink.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant. In Nepal it grows between 600-1,500 m above sea level.
