Description

A herb. It keeps growing from year to year. It grows 50-150 cm tall. The roots are cone shaped and black and up to 3 cm thick and have a strong smell. The leaves near the base have long leaf stalks. They have purple sheaths. The leaves are divided 2 or 3 times. The leaves are 20-40 cm long by 20-30 cm wide. The leaflets are oval and 3-8 cm long by 2-4 cm wide. The bases are wedge shaped.

Distribution

It is a temperate plant. It grows in northern China on the edges of forests and alongside streams between 500-1,000 m altitude.
