Description

A shrub. It grows about 1 m high. The leaves are scattered. They are oblong and 4-11 cm long by 1-3 cm wide. They are leathery. There are teeth around the edge. The flowers are in groups in the axils of leaves. The fruit capsule is oval and 3-5 mm across.

Edible Uses

The fruit is edible.

Distribution

It is a temperate plant. In China it grows in pine forests and thickets on slopes between 2,000 and 2,700 m altitude in Xizang (Tibet). It can grow up to 3,500 m altitude.

In the Himalayas plants flower April to May and fruit July - October.
