A bamboo. The culms are 4-6 m tall. They are 2-3 cm across. It has a rhizome with a neck 4-6 cm across. The internodes are 35-40 cm long. They have a white powdery covering when young. There are many branches at each node. The leaf blades are 10-15 cm long by 1 cm wide.
Edible Uses
The shoots are edible.
Distribution
It is a temperate plant. It grows at about 2,000 m altitude in western China. In Sichuan.

The shoots are eaten by giant panda.
