Description

A medium sized tree. It grows 6-30 m tall. Plants are separately male and female.

Edible Uses

It is stated that the seeds are edible, and that they are utilized for making a kind of tortilla, but it may be that there is here some confusion with the genus Brosimum.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant. It grows in the rainforest and in the cloud forest. In Mexico it grows between 160-1,800 m above sea level.

Cultivation

A dioecious species, both male and female forms need to be grown if fruit and seed are required.
